Michael Figge is a dynamic bassist, composer, and bandleader making waves in both jazz and classical music. With an extensive performance background and deep musical training, he has shared the stage with esteemed musicians such as George Garzone, Francisco Mela, Phil Grenadier, Harvey Diamond, Michael Rodriguez, Andrew Bishop, Bryn Roberts, and Ryan Devlin.
A scholarship recipient at the Brubeck Jazz Summit, Michael has studied under jazz luminaries like Gerald Cannon, Ben Wolfe, and Rodney Whitaker refining his craft under their mentorship. He has also performed at venues, including Dizzy’s Jazz Club (NYC), Wally’s Jazz Club (Boston), the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), and The Lilypad (Cambridge, MA). His versatility shines through his ability to lead groups, play as a sideman, and seamlessly transition between jazz and classical settings.
Michael is currently pursuing jazz and classical performance at Interlochen Arts Academy, where he has served as Principal Bassist in both jazz and symphonic ensembles. His deep musicality and technical mastery have led him to performances at major festivals such as the Litchfield Jazz Festival, Vermont Jazz Festival, and Brubeck Jazz Summit, as well as collaborative projects with world-class musicians.
As a bandleader, Michael heads the Sloweburn Sextet, showcasing his original compositions in venues across Boston. Additionally, his work as a composer has led to commissioned projects, including film scoring and orchestration for professional productions.
